Drummer. Plays well with others.
Brad (…that’s me) is a Toronto-based, Newfoundland-bred drummer & percussionist. In my formative years, I studied percussion performance with Rob Power & John Wyre at Memorial University of Newfoundland where I also performed in just about every conceivable type of ensemble, including the Scruncheons Percussion Ensemble, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and Gower Youth Band. I toured Canada & Europe with Mark Bragg.
In 2007 I joined Toronto instrumental band Holy Fuck for multiple US, Canadian, Mexican & European tours. I appeared off and on with HF until about 2011. Since 2008, I’ve been fortunate to be a member of Hawksley Workman’s touring band. We have toured and recorded together in a number of different configurations over the years, often incorporating multiple percussion set-ups into the live show.
I’ve played drums for a wide variety of great artists, including Port Cities, Lindi Ortega, Kathleen Edwards, Matt Mays, Tara Oram, The Once, Adam Baldwin, Dan Mangan and more. I remain active in the classical percussion world, having performed with groups including the Ontario Philharmonic, Toronto Sinfonietta, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and the former Brampton Symphony, among others.
I produce, engineer and mix records. I’ve worked on recordings for Hawksley Workman, Gramercy Riffs, Wunderstrands, Bryce Jardine, Megan Lane, and many others. See discog for more info on those & other projects.
I have been a student of Don Wherry, Rob Power, John Wyre, Billy Ward, Dave Elitch. I continue to study, while maintaining an active teaching schedule of my own.
I tried skating once, it didn’t go well. This is what I do.
Here is an interview I did with Adam Hay for his Portrait of Toronto Drummers project:
